The Behemoth Headless Bass is a monster just like its name. Very clear definition and detail in the low end. This bass cuts through the mix and never gets muddy. The beautiful figured Redwood top really sets this bass off. I had this top for along time and was waiting for something cool to use it on. This particular piece was an old growth piece and had some natural darkening on the edges which gave it a great visual look. Redwood is a soft wood and can ding easily so it must be handled with care…or not. I like the idea of this bass showing wear and tear after lot’s of use. Like the Aurora I used an oil finish on this bass. Although a polyurathane finish would be more durable, there is something very fun about oil. Every few years you have to put a refreshing coat on it to renew the finish which connects you closer to the bass, it feels more like a living thing that needs your care and attention not just an inanimate object with a thick glossy plasticky finish. This is the third bass I have built and so far I have had had tremendous luck on the sonic spectrum. This is the first headless bass I have ever built which makes it “Adam” to all the future headless basses to come. There is no shortage of tones with the Fishman Fluence Soapbar set, Literally so many tones in two pickups it’s ridiculous. Whether you’re in the studio or on the road the Behemoth will deliver.
