Construction
This is the very first 7 String guitar from Teruya Guitars. Weighing in at about 6.25 lbs the Aurora is light weight and lightning fast. Sporting a meatier asymmetrical neck profile reenforced with dual carbon fiber laminates which run through the whole neck, this guitars action should remain stable through all kinds of weather. Here in Indiana we experience extreme weather changes. from freezing cold to incredibly hot and humid summers. Indiana is a perfect testing ground for instruments in extreme conditions.
Sound
Sonically, the Aurora produces thick meaty highs balanced perfectly with beautiful crafted mids and exquisite detail in the defined low notes. I chose Alder and Maple for this guitar specifically because of the lower register. Since Alder and Maple tend to be “brighter” ( I use the term loosely) tone woods I balanced it out by chambering Both the Alder back and Maple top. The Aurora stays clear and defined in high gain and produces very nice cleans as well.
I am a huge fan of Fishman Fluence pickups and have used a good number of their different models on my guitars. There was no question that the Modern set was perfect for this guitar, providing high definition and immaculate detail. The addition of Fishman’s rechargeable lithium ion battery lasts for hundreds of hours and never degrades your tone as it runs lower like traditional 9v batteries do.
Ergonomics
An additional benefit to chambering the instrument is that it makes it feel extra resonant against your body and hands. I believe that subtle details can make a world of difference. When you can feel each note running through your body it really helps connect you to the instrument. Even the finish is designed to draw you closer to the guitar, You can feel the grain of the wood through the smooth oil finish. I want you to feel as close to the natural wood as possible and oil is a perfect medium for that.
Integrity
Each guitar I build at the moment is completely hand made, no cnc is used. I enjoy the process of building this way because it is very challenging and rewarding. With that said there are some small imperfections that I want to disclose, none of which effect the playability or integrity of the instrument but they are there and I want to be transparent about that. This is not a sterile mass produced factory generated guitar, this is a unique one of a kind hand crafted instrument. The Aurora is serial no.12 and is an important milestone since it is the first 7 string I have produced. I have noticed and am guilty of being a guitar whore and buying and selling guitars on a whim, but my goal with my guitars is to build family heirlooms for players to hand down for generations to come. If you are looking for a unique and deeply personal connection with an instrument then the Aurora is for you.
